Alumni Association of COEP

The Alumni Association of COEP strives to foster and strengthen the relationship between the Institute, its faculty, alumni, business corporations, philanthropists, and well-wishers. The primary goal is to encourage support in the form of philanthropic gifts that contribute to the continued advancement of the Institute. The Alumni Association of COEP Technological University calls upon alumni to give back to the institution that shaped their careers, supporting COEP Technological University’s journey toward becoming a world-class institution for higher education. To achieve this, the Alumni Office plays a pivotal role in bolstering various programs and initiatives, including student scholarships, faculty chair endowments, multidisciplinary research centers in emerging fields of science and technology, campus entrepreneurship, and the enhancement of infrastructure.

The Alumni Association of COEP organizes a variety of events and global outreach programs throughout the year to engage alumni, corporations, and philanthropic organizations, ensuring lasting connections and continuous support for the growth and excellence of COEP Technological University

A Leader Who Inspires by Example- Journey from Scratch to Industrialist

Success isn’t just about what we achieve, it’s about how we uplift others along the way. I recently had the privilege of meeting Bharat Gite, a visionary entrepreneur and the driving force behind Taural India. Despite his demanding schedule, he made time for us, and that speaks volumes about his humility and leadership. Bharat Gite’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. From studying Metallurgical Engineering at CoEP to earning a Master’s from RWTH Aachen, Germany, and an Executive Master’s from Harvard Business School, he built his foundation in knowledge and expertise. His global exposure, including his time at BMW AG and Mahle GmbH, shaped his perspective on innovation and excellence. But instead of settling abroad, he chose to bring his expertise back to India. Dr. Pramod Chaudhari Donates 1 Crore to COEP Technological University

Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, the outgoing chairman of the governing board of COEP Technological University and executive chairman of Praj Industries, has announced a generous donation of 1 crore to the university. This announcement comes after his recent resignation from the position due to personal reasons. Following Dr. Chaudhari’s resignation, the state government appointed Vinayak Pai, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Projects Limited, as the new chairman, Mr. Vinayak Pai, an alumnus of COEP, was formally welcomed by Dr. Chaudhari during a ceremony where the donation was announced. The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sunil Bhirud, Registrar Dr. D. N. Sonawane, and other key members of the governing board and various departments of the university. Dr. Chaudhari emphasized that the utilization of the donation would be entirely at the discretion of the university administration and the governing board.

On 14th September 2024, an exclusive session was held with Mr. Hrushikesh Sagar, a distinguished alumnus of the 2010 Production Engineering batch and Senior Director at Tesla Motors, USA. Organized by the Alumni Association of COEP Technological University, the event provided an incredible opportunity for students and faculty to engage directly with Mr. Sagar and gain insights from his illustrious career. Throughout the session, Mr. Sagar shared his journey from COEP to Tesla, offering valuable lessons in perseverance, innovation, and leadership. His experience, at Tesla, has been instrumental in transforming vehicle production processes and scaling operations. The session also delved into Tesla's cutting-edge advancements in manufacturing, Lean principles, and engineering innovation, providing a unique perspective on global industry trends.

Committed to transforming COEP into world-class institution: Prof Bhirud

Prof. Sunil Bhirud, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of COEP Tech University, said the Board of Governance is committed to transforming the University into a World Class Institute. He was speaking at the Press Conference held at COEP, on Tuesday. Dr Pramod Chaudhari, chairman of the board of governance (BOG), COEP Tech University, Dr D N Sonawane, registrar, COEP Tech University, and Dr Ravindra Utgikar, advisor BOG, COEP Tech University, were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhari said, “Dr Bhirud’s extensive and rich experience of working with esteemed institutions like VJTI, Mumbai University, and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will prove to be beneficial for implementing the future plans of COEP Tech University, and we will extend full support to him.” KPMG, a world-class consulting organisation, based on primary and secondary research of the COEP Tech University has submitted a diagnostics report along with recommendations.

COEP Alumnus, Mrs. Wasudha Korke, Pledges Generous Research Assistantship in Memory of Family Legacy

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Wasudha Korke (1973, Electrical), COEP Alumnus has expressed her profound commitment to support the academic and research pursuits of a third-year Civil Engineering student. The initiative, dedicated to the memory of her grandfather, Late M.V. Joglekar, and father, Late S.M. Joglekar, both distinguished alumni of COEP, aims to foster a culture of research and giving back to the alma mater among students. Mrs. Korke has given an endowment of Rs. 4,00,000/- (Indian Rupees Four Lakhs only) for this purpose to Alumni Association of COEP. The fund is designated to provide a 'Fellowship' to a third-year student willing to undertake a 'Research project or Teaching Assistance to 2nd-year civil engineering students' for a tenure of one semester. Top 6 students from 'Strength of Materials' and 'Structural Mechanics' subjects will be shortlisted for the final round of selection, with one student receiving the fellowship.

COEP alumnus donates 8.25 crore to his alma mater

The College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technology University has received its highest donation yet of 8.25 crore from one of its alumni, Ashish Achlerkar, an entrepreneur based out of the US and a philanthropist. Achlerkar on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the COEP Alumni Association for the ?8.25 crore endowment, which is the highest ever from a single donor, COEP officials said. Achlekar said, “One of my core missions—and the mission of the Achlerkar Foundation—is to help better people’s lives. A key driver of personal advancement is receiving a high-quality education. Through this endowment, we are kickstarting our desire to help support thousands of talented students at various educational institutions across the world, including skilled trade institutes.” “I am aware that bright students across the country come to the COEP, and some of them come from humble backgrounds. What this alma mater has given me cannot be returned: it can only be paid forward.

Pune: Alumni Association of College of Engineering raises Rs 67 lakh, buys laptops for 175 needy students

COEP had provided the Alumni Association with a priority list earlier in July and Ashwin Honkan and Vikas Khanvelkar from the governing body put in the efforts to execute the initiative within a time period of two months. The Alumni Association of the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) has raised Rs 67 lakh, which was used to provide 175 laptops for financially-challenged students of the college. “The Covid-19 pandemic situation compelled education institutions to opt for online teaching and online examinations. This created a need for laptops or computers for every student. But many students come from humble backgrounds and smaller neighbouring cities… some are children of farmers, who do not have laptops, desktops or even the required internet connectivity,” said Ramesh Rao, treasurer and governing body member of the Alumni Association.
